What are the CA State driver’s license requirements if I am younger than 18 years old?
If you are less than 18 years of age and are pursuing your driver’s license, you must first acquire a provisional instruction permit. Only teenagers between the ages of 15 ½ and 18 are eligible for this permit. Once you have one, you’ll be expected hold it for six months while completing the 30 hours of classroom instruction and six hours of behind the wheel training required by the DMV. Once your driver training and education are complete and you’ve held your permit for at least six months, you’ll return to the DMV to test for your provisional driver’s license.
To obtain your provisional driver’s license, you will need to be at least 16 years old, provide the DMV with proof that you have completed the required classroom instruction and behind the wheel driver training, provide the DMV with a parent’s signature on your permit indicating the completion of your 50 supervised practice hours. Remember, 10 of your 50 hours must be driven at night. Lastly, you will need to pass a behind the wheel driving test.
*Note: Your driver’s license will lose the provisional restrictions when you turn 18.
What are the CA State driver’s license requirements if I am 18 years old or older?
If you are 18 or more years of age and are pursuing your driver’s license for the first time, you will also need to acquire an instruction permit while learning to drive. While the DMV does not require any specific driver training or education, we at Stratford Driving School encourage all new drivers (including drivers new to the United States) to participate in both classroom instruction and behind the wheel driver training before testing for their driver’s licenses.
You will have three chances to pass your behind the wheel driving test with the DMV. If you fail your first test, there is no required amount of time you must wait before you can take it again; however, we recommend either taking the time to get much more practice before returning to the DMV or to seek instruction from professional driving instructors.
What are the minimum requirements for taking driving lessons at Stratford?
In order to take driving lessons at Stratford Driving School, you must at least have your instruction permit, whether that is a provisional teen permit or an adult permit. Students may also posses an out of country license or current driver’s license. Our driver training and education is focused on providing new, returning, foreign, and current drivers with the instruction they need to become confident and skilled drivers within the State of California.
